Murals

This photo was my first down load for Rate my Space... this is the room that I made friends with....
I've noticed that most people are not luke warm when it comes to murals, they either love or hate them.

I think it all depends on the artist. If the artist is good, you will love the mural , if not... not so much.

In my opinion a home is usually only large enough for one mural, regardless of it's size .

They do limit ones designs choices, but unlike wallpaper, they are easy to get rid of ! How do you feel about murals?

Collections

Collections add character to a room. Even if the collection is not expensive or rare , a clever arrangement can create great impact.
Consider that a lot of anything is always interesting to look at.

Even everyday objects can be eye-catching as precious ones when they are arranged in an appealing way. Do you have any collections you would like to tell us about?

A Thyme for Blue

Those who know me, know I have a strong dislike for the color "blue".
So I am sure it will come as a surprise that in the garden , it is my favorite hue ...

I love the way it pops and brings a element of joy to all the green.

With all things there is a time and a place ... even a thyme for blue ! Do you have any blue in your garden?

Wabi-Sabi

Wabi-sabi is the Japanese philosophy of appreciating the imperfect, the primitive, the incomplete.
It's a concept I've been embracing more and more in these uncertain times ...

There's artistry in keeping things simple.

Most important, though wabi-sabi is much more than a design aesthetic. It's a lifestyle.

It reminds one to take the time to find beauty in the ordinary: to slow down and be content in a simple home. Are you embracing the wabi-sabi in your life?

The Perfect Accessory

My favorite accessory is a wooden tea caddy. The old ones had the same techniques applied to them as furniture, and have been around for 200 years.
Caddies are a great way to conceal clutter, perfect for your cell phone or your husbands wallet and loose change.

I love that they all have locks on them. It's fun to think of tea being a pricey commodity, subject to theft ...

As for the name, the tea chest came to be called caddies from the Malay word, "kati ," a measure of weight for tea.

Yes, tea caddies are my favorites ... my least favorite would have to be fake flowers ... What is your favorite and least favorite accessory?

Do Her Friends Call Her Candy ?

Canada's Interior designer Candice Olson does not need a introduction ... if you are a lover of design , I am sure you know her.
Her signature style incorporates creativity, practicality and timelessness creating sophisticated but accessible design.

She likes to call her style, "Contemporary modern with a touch of the unexpected." I would say, "She got it right."

Due to her popular shows on HGTV, she is one of today's most recognized interior designers. We can't seem to get enough of her classic, modern, sleek, chic and warm, with a nod to traditional spaces.

She is one designer that would sure be welcomed to my home ... what about yours?

Springtime Love Affair

Is it because it is "Springtime" that I am having a love affair with color? Inside or outside, I am seeing it everywhere and find myself studying it ...
There is just something about a safe and traditional space with a unexpected punch of color ...

Suddenly you have something new and fresh with just a simple shot of pure unfiltered COLOR. Are you too having a Springtime love affair ?

A Gardener's Diary

My all time favorite show on HGTV was "A Gardener's Diary." The hostess would introduce you to the gardener and both would be wearing long flowing dresses and hats ... it was just all so romantic. This gardener tends to wear men's overalls and a bandanna ... and somehow the romance is absent.

Each gardener in turn would be asked, "What their favorite flower was?" and each would reply, "What is doing well at the time".
For a garden is a play that is always changing ...

The stars are different from week to week ... each flower taking it's turn in the dance.

It's early and the stars of April are the tulips, hyacinth, daffodils and the flowering trees. But this will soon be changing ... Does anyone out there know who the gardener of today's show is?

Bedroom Secerts

Your bedroom should be the stylish, comfortable room of your dreams ... but for a lot of us it holds our little secrets. ( the pillow at the end of the bed is for my little fur baby)

I've read it should be the first room decorated in a new home ... but in my experience working in this small town I have noticed that most the time it is the last.
In my own bedroom, the bedding has to be washable and easy, due to my two little furry bed partners. The window treatments have to be dark to satisfy a husband that often works at night and sleep when the sun is shining.

I need a new chair, there is dust under the bed and don't even ask about the closet ... do you have any bedroom secrets of your own ?

Secret Admirer

Most of the time I tend to be a secret admirer of color ...
I simply love this room ! Why, oh why, can't I have the courage to "just do it".

Part of the fear comes from my love of change ... I am afraid that I will be locked into something that I will soon want out of ... What's your excuse?

First Impressions

Behind every front door lurks a mystery. If you are like me you can't wait to unveil it.
A homes entry will make a lasting first impression. The best will have ample space, a mirror , a closet just for guest, a table for keys , mail ect. and a display of artwork.

If you have a new home it should be among the first to be completed. If you have a older home, be careful not to let it fall into the forgotten spaces.

Remember you never get a second chance to make a first impression ... have you really looked at your own foyer lately?
